The estate Quinta da Lagoalva is located in a region of unique natural beauty extended in the south bank of the river Tagus, approximately 2km from the town of Alpiarça and 11 km of the city of Santarém. Its historical, human and agricultural atmosphere provide the visitor an unforgettable combination of sensations and life changing experiences related with the rural world. The history of the estate goes back to the 12th century, when the King of Portugal delivered these lands to the Ordem of Santiago de Espada, due to its heroic deeds in the conquest of Santarém. The land stayed in the hands of this military Ordem for 6 centuries until it was transferred to the second Duke of Palmela. Since then and throught generations these lands still belong to members of the Palmela family.

Visits

The complete visit program begins with the Quinta da Lagoalva Palace. There is a visit to the cellar, where the winemaking process and aging of the wines are explained, followed by the chapel, with a brief overview of its uses and customs in the past and today. The visit continues to the stables and the riding arena, where the family Stud Farm and the Museum are shown, where the heritage of the Lagoalva Horse Carts is on display. This may or may not be followed by a trip to the countryside in a horse carriage, to show the size of the property, while the agricultural products are presented: cork, olive oil and wine.

Wine tasting

Quinta da Lagoalva has, combined with its location, in the heart of the Ribatejo marshland, a family tradition of excellence when it comes to wine production. The wine tasting is complemented by regional products, which make the experience at the Quinta even more enriching. Wine tourism combines family tradition with the unique landscape of Ribatejo.
